History of Dental Implants
Dental Implants have been discovered to date back as far as ancient Mayan Civilization. However what we would regard as the basis of modern implant surgery was developed in the 1950’s.
A Swedish orthopaedic surgeon, P. I. Branemark found in experiments that titanium fused with living bone. Dr. Leonard Linklow performed his first dental implant in 1952 and became known as the father of modern implant surgery and by 1992had placed 19,000 implants.
In 1965 in Sweden P.I. Branemark placed the first titanium implant and up until the present day millions of titanium implants have been successfully placed.
Most implants have the shape of a small screw made from pure titanium and feature either parallel or tapered side
